Optimización tonal para negativos y positivos digitales en procesos fotográficos Tonal optimization for digital negatives and positives in photographic processes

ES EN
EPIK DigiNeg

The application works in Spanish or English and can complete the tonal workflow without depending on Photoshop.

Tool for measuring, building, editing, and applying tonal curves from processed and scanned grayscale charts.

What EPIK DigiNeg does

EPIK DigiNeg is designed to create digital negatives or positives adjusted to real photographic processes: cyanotype, Van Dyke, platinum/palladium, anthracotype, anthotype, and other contact-printing or hand-sensitized methods.

Its purpose is not to invert an image in a generic way, but to measure how a specific process responds and build a curve that redistributes image tones so the useful tonal range is better used.

Main features

AreaWhat it allows
Generate grayscale chartCreate a positive or negative chart at the resolution needed for printing and processing.
Evaluate scanLoad the scan of the processed chart, align the grid over the patches, and obtain measured samples.
Generate curveCompute a correction curve using mean, median, or percentiles depending on scan and paper stability.
Edit curveRefine the curve manually with Photoshop-like interpolation or a conservative smooth mode.
Apply and printLoad an image, apply the curve, invert tones or mirror horizontally when needed, and prepare saving or printing.
CompatibilityRead and save Photoshop-compatible .acv curves.

Recommended workflow

  1. Generate the grayscale chart as a negative or positive according to the method.
  2. Print it with the same printer, paper, ink, resolution, and color-management setup that will be used for real work.
  3. Process the chart with controlled timing, exposure, chemistry, and drying.
  4. Scan the result with neutral settings and without automatic corrections.
  5. Align the grid over the patches, enlarging or reducing the sample squares if needed.
  6. Generate the curve with the statistical method that is most stable for that material.
  7. Review the curve, apply it to a sample image, and repeat the test if the process requires it.

Why a measured curve

Each process compresses and expands the tonal scale differently. A measured curve compensates for that real response and helps prevent shadows from closing too early, highlights from losing separation, or midtones from falling in the wrong place.

DigiNeg turns the search into a repeatable procedure: chart, process, scan, measurement, curve, and new test. This makes it possible to optimize tonal range without using an external image editor.

The unregistered version lets you test the basic workflow with limitations. The license activates all saving, chart-generation, and final-output functions.
